Patriots WR Jakobi Meyers not to blame for desert disaster

[ad_1]

The New England Patriots lost on a last-second touchdown by the Las Vegas Raiders on a lateral gone wrong from Jakobi Meyers.

With the loss, the Patriots fall to 7-7 on the season and see their playoff hopes dwindle second by second. They will need a lot of help from teams playing the Chargers, Jets and Dolphins to have a chance of sneaking into the playoffs.

While people might be quick to blame Jakobi Meyers for yesterday’s loss, what I would say to you all is: not so fast!

The New England Patriots were leading 24-17 with three minutes left and the ball!

That’s something Patriots fans might forget amid all the chaos yesterday.

This Patriots team had taken the lead on two big plays. A big play pass from Mac Jones to Jakobi Meyers, followed by a touchdown from Rhamondre Stevenson.

They had the ball about three minutes from time and HAD THE BALL! What’s also a quick punch to the mouth is how well the Patriots ran the ball over the Raiders in the second half.

So all you have to do is run for a few first downs, drop the time, and leave Vegas with a win and improve your score to 8-6. What happens? Stopped on first down for a short gain, then a false start on Conor McDermott. It killed the reader and gave the Raiders hope.

New England Patriots defense STUNK in the final drive

This Patriots defense is basically meant to be the identity of this team. They did a phenomenal job in the second half to end the Raiders’ offense. But what happened on the last trip?

The Patriots came into this soft and considerate defense. Now I understand the angle of not getting beaten over. Especially with a guy like Davante Adams who is one of the best receivers in the NFL!

But what happens when you play too passively? Exactly what happened! Derek Carr got two big plays at receivers and they got out of bounds with relative ease. Next, the Raiders were at the New England 30-yard line with about 30 seconds left.

I know the Raiders touchdown is controversial today. But you shouldn’t even have been in this situation if you really trusted your defense to finish the job! That touchdown doesn’t happen in my opinion if the Patriots continued what they were doing for most of the second half.

New England Patriots have practice issues

Once again, practice rears its ugly head for the Patriots.

Cam Accord? He should be in the hot seat. Another blocked punt gave the Raiders a score just before the end of the first half to give the Raiders a 17-3 lead. It shouldn’t have happened.

Matt Patricia? That should be long gone! He proved he couldn’t stand being an offensive coordinator.

Defensive coaches? Change all their gameplay the latest game drive. Don’t play, DRIVE!

Serious changes need to be made to this coaching staff in 2023. Otherwise, the Patriots will be stuck in purgatory.

The backline with Jakobi Meyers and the New England Patriots

Jakobi Meyers made a mistake that ended up costing the Patriots the game. But don’t blame the whole game on Meyers for this one game!

He should never have been in this situation. It’s embarrassing that the Pats lost that game. Jakobi Meyers will continue to be an effective player on offense for the Patriots and he will learn from it.

Don’t blame Jakobi for this loss, period.
