Following a criminal complaint filed by the Brandenburg State Office for the Environment (LfU), the Potsdam public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation against Tesla for suspected unauthorized operation of a hazardous materials storage facility on the Grnheide site.
According to a report by local publication RBB, the proceedings will examine whether the American electric car manufacturer violated the laws by “operating a temporary storage facility for hazardous materials at its factory premises in Grnheide” – in particular, if the the installation in question had been sufficiently authorized. If Tesla had indeed operated the facility without permission, it could be punishable by up to three years in prison or a fine, according to the prosecution, “RBB” reported.
More specific details about the possibly illegally operated plant and the hazardous materials or substances stored there are not given in the report.
According to RBB, Tesla applied for a permit for a recycling plant on the factory premises just days ago from the LfU as an afterthought. This, too, was initially operated without the corresponding permit, after which the LfU ordered the closure and removal of the plant at the end of September.
