The French Football Federation and Bayern Munich have spoken out against racist abuse suffered by French players after their FIFA World Cup final loss to Argentina in Qatar.
Real Madrid’s German champions Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni have been the victims of vile messages on social media after their failure to score from the penalty spot.
The FFF pledged to prosecute the culprits while Bayern backed Coman and denounced the abuses and Real publicly backed Tchouameni.
“Following the World Cup final,” began a brief statement from the FFF. “Several players from the France team have been the subject of unacceptable racist and hateful remarks on social networks. The FFF condemns them and will file a complaint against those responsible.”
“FC Bayern strongly condemns racist comments towards Kingsley Coman,” added the Bundesliga giants. “The FC Bayern family is behind you, King. Racism has no place in sport or in our society.”
“It will take time to digest the bitterness and frustration,” wrote an emotional Tchouameni via Twitter. “We gave everything. I took my responsibilities and it didn’t work out, which I’m the first to be sorry about. I’m convinced, however, that the future of France looks bright, especially when we can count on your continued support.”
Didier Deschamps and the French players returned home for a large gathering at Place de la Concorde to celebrate their efforts in Qatar.
The Blues tactician is expected to reflect on his future in the coming days after Karim Benzema confirmed his international retirement.
