Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley restaurants and food attractions as Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple have strived to offer unbiased reviews of the food and drink establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to partner with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Enjoy your lunch !
It’s the season for busy days and fun shopping sprees. After the little reviewer visited Santa in Annville, the reviewers mom and gigi went mid-day shopping to buy presents for our friends and family. But first we stopped at Funck’s restaurant in Palmyra, a stop on our “Soup Stroll”.
We entered the restaurant and I was amazed at the transformation from the last time we were there (before becoming food critics). The dining room has been remodeled and updated. The menu has also changed slightly since the last time we visited, although classic Funcks signature dishes are still listed.

We did some research to make sure this was really where we wanted to stop for lunch today. The special menu included a tortellini soup which piqued our interest, as well as a classic French onion soup. The tortellini soup ($6.50 cup) was a creamy soup with vegetables, sausage and tortellini. It was rich and hearty, so good that Gigi’s reviewer ordered a cup for the reviewer’s grandpa. The French Onion Soup ($8) was a standard take on the classic, topped with a few onion straws that had a nice crunch on top. The only thing I would have changed would have been to toast the cheese a bit more on top.
We also ordered a turkey and cranberry wrap ($15), which had a generous amount of turkey, Swiss cheese, baby spinach, dried cranberries, and cranberry mayonnaise. There was plenty to eat after the soup so half was taken home to enjoy later. I had a brisket cast ($18) which had tender, flavorful brisket, bacon, cheddar cheese, caramelized onion, and creole ranch on toasted sourdough. I only ate half of it because the pot of soup was so filling. I put it in the oven to reheat later and it made a nice crispy lunch. I would have liked a little more mayonnaise on it, as it seemed to lack flavor in places throughout the sandwich.
Our opinion: Funcks offers an excellent option for a good family lunch. The staff were friendly and as we were busy discussing our shopping plans, our waitress was patient with us when we hadn’t quite decided what we wanted. Changes to the interior of the dining room create a warm atmosphere and the menu is unique.
