NEW DELHI:
On Wednesday, Edtech’s Major BYJU strongly denied reports from the National Commission for the Protection of Children’s Rights (NCPCR) that the company purchased phone numbers of children and their parents and allegedly threatened to buy his lessons.
In a statement, BYJU said it “categorically states that we have never purchased any database and expects the media to refrain from making such a baseless and baseless allegation.”
The company said that with more than 150 million students enrolled, “we don’t need to purchase or use external databases.”
“We emphasize that our lead pipeline exclusively includes users of our apps, walk-ins and inbound consultation requests. We don’t need them and we never do cold calls or walk-ins. We strongly refute any allegations to the contrary,” the company noted.
The NCPCR had summoned BYJU CEO Byju Raveendran to appear in person on December 23 in this regard.
“As the Commission came across a news article in which it was pointed out that BYJU’S sales team engaged in malfeasance to induce parents to purchase their courses for their children. It was also mentioned in the report that some customers also claimed to have been exploited and cheated, and put their savings and future at risk,” the NCPCR said in a statement. IANS
