A day after the National Commission for the Protection of Children’s Rights (NCPCR) claimed that BYJU’S would buy phone numbers from children and their parents, the EdTech company on Wednesday (December 21st) strongly refuted the allegation.

He said in a statement: ‘We don’t need it and we never make any cold calls or unscheduled visits,’ as stated in a report by the New Indian Express. On Tuesday, December 20, the NCPCR claimed that EdTech was rigorously tracking parents and children and threatening to ruin their futures. “They (the Byju) are targeting first generation learners. We will take action and if necessary we will report and write to the government,” NCPCR chairman Priyank Kanoongo told a news agency, according to the report. TNIE report.

BYJU’S called it a “baseless and baseless allegation.” TheEdTechcompany, which has over 150 million registered students, said, “We don’t need to buy or use external databases. We emphasize that our prospect pipeline exclusively includes users of our applications, walk-ins and incoming consultation requests. He added that the company is ranked 19th in Kantar’s coveted list of India’s most trusted brands. “We strongly refute any allegations to the contrary,” he said.

Last week, the commission asked EdTechfirm CEO Byju Raveendran to appear before it on December 23 on malpractice allegations of aggressively selling and mis-selling courses to students.

Not the first controversy

This is not the first time that the EdTech company has found itself in controversy. In July, the Consumer Affairs Department raised concerns about BYJU’Shard and abusive selling practices. MP Karti P Chidambaram wrote in July to the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), a fraud regulator, urging them to open an investigation into the finances of EdTechbehemoth.
