The French Football Federation does not let racist and hateful comments against Kylian Mbappe and other members of the French football team slip away.
For those unaware, Mbappe and his teammates Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni were victims of racist abuse online after France lost in the World Cup final against Argentina.
France lost to Argentina on penalties after Mbappe scored a hat trick to force a shootout. The Blues were only able to make two of their shots from the spot after Comans’ shot was saved and Tchouameni missed.
After learning of the racial abuse and hatred of their players, France condemned the actions and promised to take action in order to have the culprits punished.
Following the World Cup final, several players from the France team were the subject of unacceptable racist and hateful remarks on social networks, indicated the French Football Federation. The FFF condemns them and will file a complaint against their authors.
It remains to be seen what further steps France will take to stop the abuse and ensure it doesn’t happen again, but the federation is definitely on the right track.
There is simply no place for this kind of hatred in football. While it’s understandable that fans are frustrated with the World Cup results, especially since France were defending champions and had a legitimate chance to win back-to-back, that doesn’t make racist actions acceptable.
