PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s government on Wednesday blamed the province’s security problem on the ousting of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government in April this year.
He also slammed the administration of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharifs over criticism from the provincial police and counter-terrorism department over the seizure of the CTD center in Bannu.
Accompanied by Advisor to Chief Interior Minister Babar Salim Swati and Minister of Higher Education Kamran Bangash, Finance Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra told reporters here that security concerns arose in the province after the impeachment of Prime Minister Imran Khan and that the regime change was responsible for the current law and order situation in the province.
He said a comparison of the security situation before and after the Shehbaz government in the center was enough to confirm his assertion.
The minister said terrorist activities on the country’s western borders began in 2001.
He said deaths after 2001 in provincial (formerly Fata) tribal districts were higher than those reported nationally during the period, which shows how Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and Defense Minister Khwaja Asif were unaware of these losses.
It’s very sad to hear [remarks of members of the federal cabinet]he said.
Mr. Jhagra said that the security situation had improved after the western borders were closed and that it was maintained by the center and not by the KP.
He blamed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharifs’ administration for the province’s financial woes.
The minister said in the third letter to former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif adviser on finance Miftah Ismail, that he had warned that the centre’s continued denial of funds to the province could lead to security concerns in the province .
He said his government had to compromise on different things because of these funding denials.
Assistant Chief Minister Babar Saleem Swati said the regime change had led to security pressures, so he questioned why state institutions continued to support Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharifs’ administration.
What’s going on right now [in the province] is just because of the regime change in the country, he insisted.
He said the KP served as a buffer zone on the western border.
Swati said the sacrifices made by the province showed that its forces and people continued to stand firm against militancy.
He said the provincial government has established regional CPC offices and will create a few more soon.
Minister Kamran Bangash said there was a huge difference between the law and order situation in the province before and after 2013.
He said that the federation should behave like a federation.
Mr. Bangash said the provincial government, the police and the CTD were vigilant and taking all necessary measures to maintain law and order in the province.
We will fight militancy together, he said.
