MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Florida Many drivers had their cars towed from a parking lot in southwest Miami-Dade County despite there being no signs saying they can’t park there.
These drivers point to a specific company.
Car after car being towed from the spaces of a mall on 107th Avenue across from Florida International University.
The spots face a DDs Discounts store, and there are no signs in front of them indicating no parking.
The spots are actually part of a Burger King parking lot, with signs posted behind the spots, in a hedge alongside the drive-thru.
Javier Hernndez lives nearby and says he was stunned when he noticed the number of people being towed from these locations.
Every time I walk in, I always see at least two cars getting hitched. I see old person after old person coming out, he said.
Although the lot has parking signs warning of towing for non-guests, reviewers say there are none in the area of these locations.
What they should have done in my opinion, they should have had the signs in front of the spots rather than away from the spots, Hernandez said.
The nearest signs are on the hedge facing the passing lane.
From there, there are two traffic lanes and then the spaces in question.
A man named JT who works in the area spoke to Local 10 about the issue.
No one parks where the sign is. It’s not even a parking spot, it’s on the sidewalk across from where people should park, JT said.
A mother shopping with her son told Local 10 News she didn’t know she couldn’t park in those places.
She said it was bad because there was no sign. Local 10 News asked the Burger King manager about the issue.
The manager said there were signs in the parking lot, but when it was pointed out that there were none in the back row, she said she had no information and that she would contact her boss.
JT thinks there is a simple solution.
Put a sign that says it’s yours. It’s quite unfair. It looks like open ground, he says.
