After an incident earlier this month, Fernley High School released a statement in response to allegations one of its male staff members was facing.
The statement was sent to parents and families at Fernley explaining that their deputy headmaster was facing charges that he was in one of the girls’ toilets while pupils were using it.
The school says it’s wrong.
Earlier this month, the school said a “vape detector” had been activated in the girls’ toilets while a teacher was nearby.
The teacher approached the toilet as five girls were leaving, when the girls saw the teacher they went back to the toilet.
A deputy headmistress, who is female, was asked to go to the bathroom while the teacher who first noticed the girls waited outside.
Meanwhile, school officials said someone took a picture of the teacher outside the bathroom and sparked rumors on social media.
A statement posted by the school on its Facebook page reads that “at no time were adult male staff members in the girls’ toilets while students were present. Statements made by others stating the opposite are categorically false”.
