The retired train driver, suspected of being a far-right extremist, had been released on bail days earlier for attacking two migrants with a saber-like sword.

Riots broke out in the French capital on Friday after three people, all believed to be Kurdish militants, were shot dead.

Police rushed to the scene in the 10th arrondissement north of Paris just after midday (11am GMT) following reports that at least eight shots were heard.

A haunting clip has now emerged appearing to show the alleged killer entering a barber shop holding a gun after the attack.

CCTV footage shows customers and staff fleeing the salon moments before the man entered.

He then seems to shoot in the direction of those who are hiding.

A fight then appears to break out as workers and customers arrest and disarm the suspected shooter.

One of the men can be seen taking the gun away while another begins to make calls.

The alleged attacker was arrested before being taken to hospital with facial injuries.

The clothing worn by the man in the clip matches the description of the outfit worn by the arrested shooter.

Investigators are considering a possible racist motive for the shooting as anti-terror police in France investigate the incident.

French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said the suspect “obviously wanted to target foreigners”.

French President Emmanuel Macron has said the country’s Kurds are the target of a “heinous” attack.

He tweeted: “Thoughts with the victims, those fighting to survive, their families and loved ones.”

Anger flared after the shooting as rioters clashed with police, started fires and formed barricades.

Riot cops fired tear gas as footage showed an injured protester being carried to safety by the crowd and injured officers being carried away by colleagues.

The filming took place near a Kurdish cultural center on rue d’Enghien in the 10th arrondissement of the French capital.

It is a few minutes from Gare du Nord, where millions of Britons arrive each year by Eurostar from Kings Cross.

The northern arrondissement of Paris has a large Kurdish population.
