Rangers told who to blame after major injury crisis revealed

The medical staff cannot take responsibility for Rangers’ injury problems this season.

That’s the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injuries and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

Rangers struggled with injuries throughout the term and currently have six senior players unavailable.

As quoted by Athletic last week (December 14), Michael Beale revealed he has told medical staff to focus now on preparing players to be available for an extended period rather than just a few games before s collapse again.

In an ideal world everyone would have the proper recovery time and players would go through comprehensive rehab protocols and come out looking shiny and brand new and we wouldn’t have any more problems, Dinnery told Football Insiders Connor Whitley.

Medical services, by their nature, get a lot of bad press and much of it is probably wrong.

At the end of the day there is one person who makes the decision at the club and that is the manager.

Return-to-play decisions will be player driven. It’s about understanding the risks associated with this return to play.

The medical service will provide insight and possibly data regarding the likelihood and probabilities of a recurrence.

Managers will take this into account and discuss with their coaches to understand where they stand with the rest of the team. You might have the luxury of not needing your best player for a week or two because you have others who can fill that role.

I don’t think it’s necessarily a change of mindset on the part of the manager, maybe it’s a change of pressure. These are unique scenarios.

This highlights the fact that there are so many influencing factors that go into these return to play decisions. It’s not just a case of a player being 100% injury free or not.

Michael Beale is able to take a step back and move away from this short-termism. He’s a guy who understands the situation and the big picture, it’s not just the next game, you have to look beyond it.

In other news, Rangers are aiming to sign a World Cup star.
