Shiv Sena (Shinde Group) Rahul Shewale, a member of Lok Sabha, has called for an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the case of a woman filing a rape complaint against him, alleging that she had links to the Dawood Ibrahim gang.
Accompanied by his wife Kamini Shewale and his lawyer, the MP spoke at a press conference on Sunday where he called for an investigation by the NIA into the “international conspiracy” to end his political career. “The girl in question has links to the Dawood Ibrahim gang. She has been to Pakistan several times…I want the chief minister to ask the NIA to investigate this girl,” Shewale said.
He claimed that some elements of the Yuva Sena, the youth wing of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray group) as well as the NCP were behind the defamation attempts. He also claimed that the woman tried to blackmail him.
The development came after Pune’s NCP leader Rupali Thombre Patil broadcast a live broadcast on Friday with the 33-year-old woman, who accused Shewale of rape and exploitation. In the video, the woman alleged that Shewale had exploited her and that her police complaint against him earlier this year had not been turned into a first information report despite her repeated attempts.
