“You’re never going to make everyone happy. You have to think about that.”
Tony Khan recently spoke with Fightful’s “Grapsody” podcast about the recent spat of disgruntled wrestlers taking their frustrations with the lack of TV time to Twitter, a recent example being former AEW TNT Champion Miro, as well as recent comments about the locker room mostly. -critic Eddie Kingston.
“You’ve got some people who are going to be front and center week in and week out,” Tony said in the interview, which was recorded before Friday’s edition of “AEW Rampage” aired. “Eddie is a big part of tonight’s show, we’ll see Eddie on ‘Rampage,’ tonight. There are dozens of wrestlers featured on ‘Dynamite’ and ‘Rampage’ every week, and throughout those three o’clock, you see a lot of names, but there’s a lot of names that you don’t see in AEW every week, and sometimes they’re quiet about it, and sometimes there’s a reason: someone gets hurt, someone someone’s working on another project, someone’s getting repackaged, or frankly there just aren’t enough three-hour slots.”
Khan noted that this is a unique problem for the professional wrestling industry. “It’s not really common in the NFL for the backup quarterback to complain to the coach that he’s not playing. It’s not common in the NBA for the backup point guard to insult the coach because he doesn’t get minutes.”
Khan says he has a simple and consistent way of looking at his wrestlers’ frustrations. “I take it with a smile, and I will continue to take it with a smile. It’s okay. I understand that everyone wants to struggle and wants to do things.”
The AEW president continues to praise the locker room. “We have a lot of great wrestlers here and when they’re here and we can get everybody involved? I love that.”
