TikTokers slam waitress who cries over lack of tips

Tipping in restaurants is an American custom where customers can tip a little extra money to their servers if they enjoyed their service.

While many people choose to tip out of generosity, it is not a requirement.

A waitress thinks otherwise, as she expressed in a TikTok video that many people are criticizing her for.

The waitress tells people that if they can’t afford to tip the waiters, they shouldn’t go out to eat

In a video that has received over 800,000 views, Daylie Waters expresses her frustration as tears stream down her face.

If you don’t have money to tip your waiter and you go out and don’t tip your waiter, then I have no respect for you, she said.

Waters claims that as a waitress earning only five dollars an hour, she lives on tips from customers.

Nine times out of ten I don’t make the money you think I make, she tells viewers.

The server industry doesn’t get enough credit for how difficult this task is.

Although Waters claims to love her job at a bar and grill, she shares that she sometimes feels degraded by customers who don’t tip.

Work so hard, smile at a table despite my stress, give you good service and get no tip like I didn’t work for you, she said.

I think the service sector needs better salaries.

However, Waters did not receive the sympathetic reactions from viewers that she expected.

Many people responded to Waters’ video and disagreed with his take on tipping.

I want to make it very clear, tipping is generosity! TikTok user @millybling04 fired back. It is not a requirement.

Instead, she blames Waters for not choosing to work elsewhere. How dare you complain to us and act like it was our fault for not tipping you when your job didn’t pay you the right amount of money?

Others criticized the restaurant industry for not paying their employees adequately, so they had to rely on tip money.

Tipping culture is spiraling out of control and it needs to be reversed, explained TikTok user @gab.geeee.

She criticizes restaurant employers for failing to pay their waiters minimum wage and blaming customers for tipping.

Many of these companies avoid paying their employees fair and living wages by shifting that responsibility onto their consumers through tips, she says.

These multi-billion dollar corporations with inflation, with rising gas prices, with food companies, you’d think they would say, let’s pay our employees a fair wage. But no, they rely on their consumers for that.

The minimum wage varies for servers working in the United States, with California having the highest of $15.00 per hour, and Georgia and Wyoming having the lowest of $5.15 per hour.

Typically, when customers are happy with their service, they tip waiters 20-25% of the bill.

However, tip money shouldn’t be the servers’ only source of income, and those like Daylie Waters should receive better treatment and payment from their employers.
