JOHANNESBURG – South African Tourism released a statement on Tuesday condemning a racist video that went viral on Christmas Day.
The incident happened at the Maselspoort Resort & Conference Center outside Bloemfontein in the Free State.
In the video, a white man can be seen strangling a young black boy by the neck for occupying a seemingly white-centric space.
A group of people then tried to intervene. Afterwards, another white man violently pulls the boy’s hair.
The family came to spend the day at MASELSPOORT RESORT & CONFERENCE CENTER in Free State. My brothers were attacked by these grown men because they are apparently not allowed in the pool as it is “white” only here.

The national tourism agency said racism and racial profiling, whether by a customer or an establishment, is unacceptable.
They added that tourism is about “authenticity, sustainability and inclusiveness”, and that “racism [was] an antithesis to that”.
“All South Africans and all visitors have the right to enjoy South Africa…we need to connect with each other as we explore our country and also open our hearts and doors to welcome visitors from all over the world,” South African Tourism said in the statement.
He said he welcomed the Free State MEC for Economics, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA), Makalo Mohale’s statement that law enforcement was involved in the case and that the perpetrators had been criminally charged.
“As a leader in the tourism sector, we do not support this type of behavior, whether from establishments or customers of a tourist establishment or any other hotel establishment. We call on all tourism businesses and product owners to take decisive action and take a stand against such incidents,” that ended the statement.
South African Tourism said incidents of racism can be reported by emailing: [email protected].
