A person found living in an underground hole has been evicted following reports of illegal activities.

In the UK, the eviction of a homeless man from his unusual cave-like accommodation just before Christmas has become viral news.

Authorities in Suffolk County took action over the holidays, including evacuating the forest enthusiast from his home in a forest next to a main road in England. The man, who has not been named by local media, has reportedly been making a tent at the bottom of a set of sunken steps leading down to the ground, since February 2019.

Law enforcement suspected the man of engaging in “criminal activity” in his makeshift accommodation and displayed apparently disturbing anti-social behavior, according to the local East Anglian Daily Times newspaper.

According to a tweet from Stowmarket Police, multiple agencies were involved in the recent save[ing] of the male suspect. The department hashtag his tweet, #Returning_Land_For_All_To_Enjoy, which included photos of the DIY abode and a short video of the hole the man called home for three years that was filled with dirt.

The man is now receiving care from a family member, police added, according to Triangle News.

Meanwhile, the Stowmarket cops’ tweet sparked a series of emotional reactions, with some calling the decision unnecessary and cruel.

“If he’s been living there happily for 3 years including during the pandemic, no harm, no asb [sic] and no criminal activity, why couldn’t he stay if he is safe and well there,” one reviewer replied on Twitter.

“I hope you enjoy your festive gathering. Feeling pleased with yourself and happy that this poor soul is now out in the cold and winter. Bah humbug to you all, “scolded another.

Others agreed that removing the man was the best thing to do in the situation.

Personally, as someone who was concerned about walking near where he was due to reports of aggressive behavior from him to members of the public, I’m glad to know that this person has been moved and it seems also suggest protective arrangements are in place for him,” one person tweeted.

Authorities have since filled the man’s makeshift home. Twitter/Stowmarket PolicePolice have been alerted to the situation by multiple reports of anti-social behavior in the area.Twitter/Stowmarket Police

To all those angry at this, he has had multiple incidents with police and attacked or threatened people in this area, so moving him is clearly the right thing to do, wrote another.

My first thoughts were that this man was doing no harm, leave him alone, but reading further it seems that aggression and fear [has] are revealed, then backup is really the only option for this vulnerable man, added a third.
