‘Rahul Gandhi’s security arrangement as directed’: Government responds to Congress allegation

A day after Congress raised concerns over Rahul Gandhi’s security arrangements for Bharat Jodo Yatra, government officials said on Thursday arrangements had been made entirely within established guidelines, the news agency reported. PTI.

Officials said a beneficiary’s safety works when the beneficiary adheres to established guidelines and that there have been 113 “violations” of safety guidelines by Gandhi since 2020. Government officials have alleged that during the step of Delhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi himself “violated” security guidelines, PTI reported.

Congress had written on Union Home Secretary Amit Shah on Wednesday alleging that Delhi police failed to maintain a perimeter around Rahul Gandhi as he drove through Delhi as part of the “ Bharat Jodo Yatra”. Officials, however, said Delhi Police informed that enough security personnel had been deployed and security guidelines had been strictly followed.

As Bharat Jodo Yatra entered Delhi, on December 24, 2022, the security of Bharat Jodo Yatra was repeatedly compromised, and Delhi police completely failed to control the growing crowd and maintain a perimeter around Shri Rahul Gandhi, who is assigned Z+Security, wrote Congress General Secretary (Organization) KC Venugopal in the letter to the Shah.

“The situation was so serious that Congress workers and Bharat Yatris marching with Shri Rahul Gandhi had to form the perimeter. At the same time, the Delhi Police have remained silent spectators,” the letter reads.

In this regard, I request you to take immediate action to ensure the safety and security of Rahul Gandhi, a Z+ beneficiary, and all Bharat Yatris and leaders joining the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Venugopal added.
