ABERDEEN FOOTBALLER Anthony Stewart has said the abuse he has suffered recently on social media will not be taken lightly.

Stewart, 30, was targeted on social media after being sent off as his side lost 3-1 to St Mirren in the Premiership cinch on Saturday.

Stewart, born in England and of Jamaican descent, would have been called a baboon and he would have replied: There are many ups and downs in this beautiful game and I take full responsibility for my mistake which cost us three points. However, I do not take racist abuse lightly.

Aberdeen have launched an investigation to identify the individual who allegedly directed racial abuse against club captain Stewart, who previously played for Wycombe Wanderers.

Aberdeen responded by saying in a club statement: We strongly condemn all forms of discrimination and are shocked by the racist abuse directed at our captain, Anthony Stewart.

Anthony has our full support and as a club we are currently carrying out a rigorous internal investigation to try to identify the person responsible.

Aberdeen FC are free from any form of discrimination and we simply will not tolerate this type of abuse.
