Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers football program were easily beaten by the Tennessee Volunteers in the Orange Bowl by a score of 31-14 on Friday night. The Orange Bowl result was a big step forward for the Volunteers, as well as a big step backward for the Tigers.
In fact, some critics have wondered if Clemson football was slipping a bit under Swinney’s stewardship. The two-time national champion didn’t have it, as he responded with a fiery defense of his program, per 247 Sports’ Robbie Weinstein.
Disappointing tonight for sure, but hey, we got high, no one has higher expectations than what we have. I promise you. Again, keep fighting. Well keep working. There are many beautiful days ahead. Many beautiful days ahead. People say what they mean. I always have, I always will. We’re just going to keep doing what we’re doing. I’ve heard all these things before.
Dabo Swinney mentioned Clemson ACC football titles in seven of the last eight years. He pointed to the fact that the Tigers have won at least 11 games in eight of the past 11 years.
Finally, Dabo Swinney ended by saying that people say what they mean and he has heard all of these things before.
Admittedly, the Orange Bowl loss was disappointing for Dabo Swinney and Clemson’s football.
Former five-star freshman quarterback Cade Klubnik struggled, throwing two interceptions and making a costly error in the fourth quarter.
But even if they lose, there at least seems to be reason to be excited about the Tigers’ future.
After all, Dabo Swinney has a pretty good track record of success.
