Haryana Min Sandeep Singh Drops Sports Portfolio After Sexual Harassment Allegation

Sandeep Singh was convicted under Sections 354 (assault or use criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her indecent), 354 A (sexual harassment), 354 B (coerce her into being naked), 342 (wrongful confinement) and IPC 506 (criminal intimidation)

A day after being indicted in a sexual harassment case, Haryana Minister Sandeep Singh relinquished his sports portfolio on Sunday on moral grounds and called the allegations against him an attempt to damage his image . Singh, a former Olympian and first Pehowa MLA in Kurukshetra, expressed hope that there will be a thorough investigation into the matter.

The FIR against Singh was registered at Chandigarh Sector 26 Police Station on 31 December. The former captain of the Indian hockey team also owns the printing and stationery department. He did not, however, resign from the Cabinet.

The coach, who filed a sexual harassment complaint against Sandeep Singh, met with Interior Minister Anil Vij in Ambala. She said Singh harassed her physically and mentally and she hopes action will be taken.

I was crying and I sounded the alarm and although all his staff were there nobody helped me,” she alleged. The coach alleged that Singh contacted her on Instagram after the I had seen in a gym and had insisted that they meet. He messaged me said on Instagram and told me that my National Games certificate was pending and I wanted to meet in this regard. Unfortunately , my certificate was misplaced by my federation and I spoke to the relevant authorities about it,” the woman said. A junior athletics coach filed the sexual harassment allegations against Singh on December 29 and filed a complaint with Chandigarh police a day later.
