Former President Donald Trump blamed pro-life Republicans for the party’s lackluster performance in the 2022 midterm elections, casting all blame on Monday.

Trump faced heavy criticism after the midterm elections after Trump-endorsed candidates lost key close races across the country. Many commentators have claimed that Trump forced the party to field bad candidates, but Trump now argues that it was the fault of staunchly pro-life Republicans.

“It’s not my fault that Republicans failed to meet midterm expectations,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. “It is the issue of abortion, mishandled by many Republicans, especially those who have firmly insisted on non-exception, even in cases of rape, incest or the life of the mother, who lost a large number of voters.

“Furthermore, the people who for decades pushed so hard against abortion got their wish from the United States Supreme Court and just disappeared, never to be seen again,” he said. he adds.

Trump’s attack on pro-life voters comes as support for his 2024 presidential race has plummeted in the polls. Prior to the midterm elections, Trump was the heavy favorite to be the Republican nominee, consistently winning primary polls with more than 50% of the vote.

Support has grown for Trump’s perceived rivals since the midterm losses of his hand-picked candidates like Herschel Walker in Georgia, Kari Lake in Arizona and Dr. Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania.

A Wall Street Journal poll of Republican primary voters found last month that Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis leads Trump by double digits for the GOP nomination.

DeSantis has not announced his intention to run, but has dropped a number of clues since Election Day. Many of his supporters chanted, “Two more years! Two more years! after being re-elected on November 8.
