Diego Simeone accepts blame for struggling Atletico side

Atletico coach Diego Simeone considers himself responsible for Atletico’s current failure. They failed to find their best form and thus sit in fifth place in La Liga.

Atletico have had a good run in 2021 after winning La Liga after a huge gap. But since then they could not live up to their reputation. Atletico are knocked out of this year’s Champions League final and have no chance in Europe.

What did Diego Simeone say?

Speaking to reporters, Diego Simeone said:

We have a great team, four players in the World Cup final, maybe the one who doesn’t give everything is the coach.

I am the one who needs to improve to be able to raise his level in La Liga. It’s more or less the same names that have won La Liga. The base of the starters is there, it is the coach who fails more than anything else.

Diego Simeone also spoke about his not so good relationship with Joao Felix.

We have differences, but I always looked for the best for the club. To squeeze the maximum of everyone until the last day that I am there or those who must be there,

(Felix) is important for the team. If he gives us what we saw in the World Cup, it will be very important. He has conditions and talent and the team needs his qualities.

It looks like Joao Felix could leave the club after the end of the season. Atletico should look to bounce back from their current position to compete at the top level of European football.

Atletico will play against Elche in their next La Liga game.
