Bangalore: Girls from RR Nagar Lower Class Home Allege Abuse

Students at RR Nagar’s Backward Classes and Minority Hostel claimed they were mistreated and mistreated by the principal.

The students, who spoke to DH on condition of anonymity, said they were made to clean the toilets and verbally abused. We are also forced to cook our own food even though the authorities have appointed cooks. The principal humiliates the girls and verbally abuses them. We are also denied permission to go home even during holidays, said one student.

Another student said that parents who call the principal to inquire about the welfare of their children are mistreated. The parents are worried that we are away from home and when they call the caretaker they are given a bite to eat, she says.

Narendra N, a member of the National Union of Students of India, said he contacted taluk and district officials to help the girls. We sent them a letter, but no action was taken. Instead of helping the girls, they threatened them with rescinding their admissions, he alleged.

Jayanagar MLA Sowmya Reddy, who also tweeted on the matter, called for immediate intervention.

It was shocking to learn of the poor state of the hostel. The students are distressed. I tried to contact higher authorities, but no one answered. I have now approached the minister to take action, she told DH.
