Police have arrested a well-known Thai dance teacher, Chutidate Thongyoo after allegations of sexual assault by an underage teenager. The teacher denied the allegations.

The teenager filed a police complaint alleging he was sexually harassed by the 60-year-old teacher, also known as Thiam, on September 16 last year. The boy revealed that he was a performer in a school band and knew Thiam because he was well known in Thailand.

Thiam promised to find him a part-time job and training. The boy accepted the offer and trusted him because he was famous. Thiam asked to take him to see the work and the class, and the teacher picked him up from his home in Jakkarat district in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Thiam took him to a rental room in Buriram province and sexually assaulted him. The teenager said Thiam hugged, kissed and touched his body and wanted to have sex with him, but he refused.

As a result, Thiam sent him home. The boy informed his parents, who then reported the problem to the police.

Police investigated Thiam’s home today and invited him to the police station to acknowledge the charges. Thiam initially faces three counts, including:

Article 319 of the penal code: whoever kidnaps a person over the age of 15 but under the age of 18 from his parents or guardian for an obscene purpose shall be punished by imprisonment for two to ten years and a fine of 40,000 to 200,000 baht Article 284 of the penal code: whoever kidnaps another person for obscene purposes by deceiving, intimidating, using force or showing violence, will be punished by imprisonment for one to ten years and a fine of 2,000 to 20,000 baht Article 278 of the criminal law: anyone who commits an indecent act against a person over the age of 15 by threatening, committing a violent act or taking advantage of any advantage when the person is unable to resist shall be punished with imprisonment of up to 10 years, a fine of up to 200,000 Baht, or both

Thiam has denied all the allegations. Police said they would gather more evidence and the case is ongoing.

Thiam is a famous dance coach, dance competition mentor and choreographer. The dancer is also involved in a number of other Thai cultural activities, such as country songs or Luk Thung music, and has performed with many famous singers.

He has been a mentor for three of the kingdom’s most popular television dance and singing competition programs, including Shing Sha Sawan (), Golden Microphone () and Singing War ().

Channel 7 broadcast footage from an old interview with Thiam. In the interview, he said that many people come to see him because they want to be famous. Some even asked her to have sex with them in exchange for an opportunity and a career in the Thai entertainment industry.
