Where is the body of the beloved father? Funeral home and hospital play blame game after science proves family right

SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. For months, grief-stricken Sarahdjie and Vanessa Monosiet have searched for their late father’s body after a Miami-Dade County funeral home placed the wrong one in a casket.

Their father, Edner Monosiet, died at age 71 of COVID-19 on August 28, at Larkin Community Hospital in South Miami. Hospital staff told them that they had delivered his body to Emmanuel Funeral Home.

The Monosiet family’s grief turned to outrage in September when the funeral director claimed the body in the coffin belonged to Edner Monosiet. But that was not the case.

They compared dental records and DNA results from when I took the DNA test on Oct. 27, Sarahdjie Monosiet said of the results of the state’s ongoing investigation. They say the body they gave us at the funeral is indeed not my father.

Amid an ongoing blame game between Larkin Community Hospital and Emmanuel Funeral Home, state officials from the Department of Funeral, Cemetery and Consumer Services are investigating.

When I saw the body, immediately I knew … Doing all this and having all these difficulties and it’s not even the right body, it’s painful, said Sarahdjie Monosiet.

The sisters said the experience was traumatic since Larkin Community Hospital reported handing over the body to workers at Emmanuel Funeral Home, who insisted the body in the casket was his. .

How do I open a coffin and tell myself it’s my father? And I tell you it’s not, said Vanessa Monosiet.

Larkin Community Hospital released a statement saying only one person died at its facility on Aug. 28, and since they don’t have a morgue, funeral home workers are picking up bodies from rooms.

The body was collected hours after death by the funeral home, the hospital spokesperson wrote in a statement.

Emmanuel Funeral Home has consistently denied there was a mistake.

We weren’t crazy, so making ourselves feel crazy was really hard for us, and traumatic so it was a feeling of relief, Vanessa Monosiet said of getting the ID report in late December.

Sarahdjie and Vanessa Monosiet said they want investigators to not only find their father’s body, but also find out the identity of the man in the coffin and find out how the mix-up happened.

A loved one is unfortunately trafficked, played with. They don’t know their family has gone through all this investigation and testing, Vanessa Monosiet said. Not true…Christmas was terrible for all of us and you can imagine the pain was felt.

Sarahdjie Monosiet accepted.

I already knew it wasn’t my father. Now that you have the proof, what happens next? This is the part that really attracts us. We had to prove it wasn’t him and that’s good, but where is he?
