USC quarterback Caleb Williams had an impressive second season for the Trojans, leading the program to the Cotton Bowl and winning the Heisman Trophy.
However, it was a decision he made outside of his game that drew criticism from some college football pundits.
One of his detractors is ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit, who objected to Williams’ decision to paint his fingernails with the phrase “F— Utah” before the Pac-12 title game. The ESPN analyst discussed this in detail on Monday during College GameDay.
After ESPN’s Rece Davis agreed that Williams’ gesture was “off-putting”, Herbstreit agreed but noted that everything else around Williams was positive. As for the lewd message from the USC quarterback, Herbstreit didn’t hold back.
“He’s not just representing himself, but SC and Lincoln Riley. … They have to clean this s — up,” Herbstreit said.
With a victory in Monday’s Cotton Bowl against Tulane, USC would end with a 12-game winning season and a New Year’s Six Bowl victory in the first year for Lincoln Riley and Williams in Los Angeles.
