CINCINNATI (WXIX) — ESPN analyst and former NFL player Bart Scott is being slammed for comments suggesting the Bengals wide receiver is to blame for the incident that led to the safety’s hospitalization of the Buffalo Bills, Damar Hamlin.
Scott was on First Take on Tuesday when he said Hamlin was getting ready to make the tackle on Higgins, the Bengals wide receiver lowers his helmet, and he kind of throws his body in [Hamlins] chest. He gets up because he thinks he has to chase Tee Higgins sideways to make a tackle, so he didn’t expect Tee Higgins to kick his body into him.
Just hours after the Monday night football game was officially suspended, Higgins offered his thoughts and prayers to Hamlin. Great uncertainty still surrounded Hamlins’ status as he was rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Comments from Scott, an 11-year NFL veteran, weren’t well received.
Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons took to Twitter, explaining what happened to Hamlin was a freak incident. Parson went on to say that for Scott to suggest that Higgins is at fault is crazy.
Parsons asked if Scott had even thought about how Higgins must have felt knowing he was involved in the play that brought the sports world to a screeching halt on Monday.
Former Bengals offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth supported Parsons’ take.
I smell you young legend! At all levels ! Like my brother, it’s not about this guy and his hot takes right now! This is about our brotherhood pulling together and coming together for our brothers! Not so BS!

The overwhelming support for Hamlin spread across the country.
Right here in Cincinnati, a steady stream of Bengals and Bills fans continually stood outside UCMC to pray for Hamlins’ recovery.
There was even a prayer service for the 24-year-old Bills player on Tuesday at Crossroads Church in uptown Cincinnatis.
Bengals kicker Evan McPherson appeared via recorded video to begin the service with a prayer.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Damar Hamlin and his family and everyone involved, McPherson said. We just want to take this second to realize that Damar is more than just a football player. He’s a son. He’s a teammate. He’s a friend. And last but not least is a brother in Christ. He really needs our prayers right now.
Hamlin is still listed in critical condition at UCMC.
