Michigan football under NCAA investigation, to receive notice of allegations by Friday: report

Michigan football has been investigated by the NCAA and expects to receive notice of the allegations by the end of the week, according to a report Thursday by Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic. The offenses described in the notice are relatively minor, according to Auerbach. However, the investigation also depends on Michigan’s response, Auerbach added.

Michigan and head coach Jim Harbaugh were under the NCAA’s microscope in 2021 for the improper use of an analyst as an on-field coach.

The news comes as reports swirl about Harbaugh’s future with the program. A few NFL teams have reportedly expressed interest in the veteran coach, and he released a statement Thursday that did nothing to dispel that idea.

“As I stated in December, even though no one knows what the future holds, I fully expect to coach Michigan in 2023,” Harbaugh said, via The Michigan Insider. “I have spoken with Chairman Santa Ono and Sporting Director Warde Manuel and appreciate their support of me and our program. Harbaugh and Michigan are coming off a year in which they finished the regular season with a 12-0 record.

The Wolverines defeated Purdue in the Big Ten Championship Game and secured the No. 2 seed in the college football playoffs. They lost in the Fiesta Bowl to three-seeded TCU, who will face Georgia in Monday’s national championship.
