Southwest Airlines Provides Flight Disruption Review

Southwest Airlines has pledged to undertake a detailed review of the collapse that left thousands of travelers stranded across the United States during the year-end rush.

The airline canceled around 16,000 flights after a winter storm hit the country late last month.

He now promises to initiate additional measures and investments to avoid such situations in the future.

In a video address posted on his website, Southwest Airlines CEO Bob Jordan said: Our leadership team is focused on a thorough review of the disruption with all necessary resources involved, and I expect that this work is completed quickly.

We have already taken immediate action to mitigate the risk of this happening again, and the review work will also inform further action and investment.

We have also asked our unions to participate in this review effort, and we also communicate regularly with our Board of Directors.

Despite its apologies, the carrier has drawn criticism from various parties, including affected passengers and union leaders.

Southwest Airlines pilots association vice president Tom Nekouei told Reuters he, along with other union leaders, joined Jordan on a conference call on Monday to talk about the chaos.

During the discussion, Jordan informed attendees that the airline has not yet developed a recovery plan to get out of such situations in the future, Nekouei said.

Nekouei was quoted by the agency as saying: They don’t know what they’re going to do in terms of remedial action because they haven’t sat down and done the autopsy on it.

According to Nekouei, pilot unions calculate that flight cancellations could result in up to $1 billion in lost revenue.

Last month, the US government called for an investigation into Southwest Airlines to identify issues that were limiting the carriers’ recovery from the impact of the winter storm.
