Migrants are not responsible for the fentanyl crisis in this country; Southwest Airlines problems must more than double Chicago Tribune

The opinion piece on the fentanyl poisoning of our children written by Virginia Krieger and Lora Ries is largely true. It is definitely a public health crisis.

However, I have a problem with a paragraph. The authors insinuate that drugs cross our open southern border with migrants. These drugs have been coming here for years. They come in trucks, cars, planes and boats. There was just a story recently of a flight attendant caught in San Diego with three pounds of fentanyl strapped to her body.

It is not the poor families of asylum seekers or other migrants trying to cross the border who are at the origin of this epidemic.

Southwest Airlines CEO Bob Jordan has repeatedly apologized for the airline schedule collapse in December, which caused the cancellation of around 16,000 flights and affected perhaps a million travellers.

An offer from the South West to cover expenses for inconvenience is expected. In her December 27 video message, however, her words for dubbing were disappointing.

Mr Jordan said: “The tools we use to recover from a disruption serve us well 99% of the time, but clearly we need to double down on our already existing plans to upgrade systems in these extreme circumstances to to never face what is right again. now.

Doubling down on their previous inadequate corrective actions will most likely result in another round of inadequate corrective actions. In recent years, Southwest passengers have experienced minor slumps due to the airlines’ outdated 1990s programming schedule.

Additionally, for years, pilots and staff repeatedly reported to management that the outdated schedule program needed to be updated. If I was on the CEO’s staff, I would advise him to stop saying we’re doubling down and say, I’ve established a committee of independent experts to report to me to determine the root causes of this collapse and to determine why previous corrective actions were ineffective. Additionally, I will post this Blue Ribbon Committee report on the company’s website.

Without these actions, I am not confident that Southwest will be able to restore public trust and regain the loyalty of Southwest travellers, including myself.
