Senator Adelere Adeyemi Oriolowo, representative of Osun West Senate District, has threatened to take the Osun State government to court over allegations of involvement in the illegal theft of government property.
The lawmaker who issued a 7-day ultimatum to withdraw the claim or face the wrath of the law also demanded 500 million naira as compensation for damaging his reputation and dragging his name through the mud.
Oriolowo, in a press conference he addressed in Iwo, demanded an unqualified apology from the state government for the false accusation.
He said that at times in December 2022, the media space was saturated with reports written by a State Asset Recovery Committee set up by Governor Ademola Adeleke stating that he was in the custody of 130G Motor Grader ( 005132-A321), D6 Bulldozer (OS130- A32), Electric Transformer Power Board Panel and Soil Compactor (OS137-A32).
He described the allegations as: blatant falsehood, naked display of recklessness, sacrilegious breach of truth and unjustifiable attack on personality, adding that since publication, many well-meaning people inside and outside the coasts of Nigeria have continually contacted him for clarification and solidarity.
Said equipment which then belonged to OSSADEP existed when I left the agency 15 years ago. To my knowledge, some of them have been transferred to the Ministry of Rural Development to assist the government. A simple due diligence or investigation by the committee would have revealed the salient fact that the equipment is still owned by the Osun State Government.
I was surprised why a state committee would waive the principle of fair hearing by inviting me to defend any report it should have obtained. I also reliably understood that the said committee did not submit its report to its principal before going to the public to slander my name.
It’s a little embarrassing for Governor Ademola Adeleke who also happens to be a former lawmaker to be surrounded by neophytes who only want to play politics and not touch the ground of running governance and the The governor’s failure to abide by the rules and his continued railroading by these sycophants may spell the end of his teething administration. said Oriolowo.
