Baku has responded to a US concern over the Azerbaijanis’ alleged “blockage” of the Lachin-Khankandi road, reports Azernews.
The United States remains concerned that the Lachin Corridor has now been blocked for more than three weeks, creating a serious humanitarian situation. We thank @ICRC for providing essential assistance during this time, but call on Azerbaijan and Russia to immediately restore access, US Ambassador to the OSCE Michael Carpenter said in a tweet.
In a response to the US ambassador, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Ayxan Hajizada regretted the tweet.
It is unfortunate that @USAmbOSCE is misled by false narratives about the “blockade and” humanitarian situation. If the road to #Lachin was blocked, no vehicle would cross it. Why is it okay to use the road for all sorts of illegal activities, but protesting against it is not appropriate? asked the spokesman.
A peaceful protest by Azerbaijani eco-activists and NGO representatives against ecocide in Karabakh is underway on Lachin Road for the twenty-seventh consecutive day, reports Azernews.
On January 6, the conditions for the unhindered passage of two passenger cars, four trucks and a supply vehicle belonging to Russian peacekeepers along the Azerbaijani Lachin-Khankandi road were made available.
A total of 24 vehicles used the Lachin-Khankandi road on January 6.
Previously, false information about the Azerbaijanis who allegedly blocked the Khankandi-Lachin road and prevented the passage of supply vehicles circulated in the Armenian media.
In a nutshell, following discussions with the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent on December 3-7, 2022, Azerbaijani specialists from the Ministries of Economy, Ecology and Natural Resources, the Service of State for real estate matters under the Ministry of Economy and AzerGold The CJSC was to conduct primary supervision on the illegal exploitation of mineral deposits on the territory of Azerbaijan. However, the surveillance failed due to provocation by ethnic Armenians.
