Azam leads Pakistan in all PCB game formats

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has responded to criticism over his captaincy ahead of the three-game ODI series against New Zealand in Karachi.

Azam said he was focused on winning games for Pakistan rather than criticism.

My job is to play cricket and enjoy it. I don’t need to satisfy or respond to anyone. I know what my game is and my responsibility when I’m at bat or as captain. I don’t need to make anyone happy, my job is to win games for Pakistan, Azam told a news conference on Sunday.

Azam also remained tight-lipped on the Pakistani playing XI for the first ODI on Monday, January 9.

I did not watch the field. We will decide on our playing XI after evaluating the pitch. We will try to field our best XI, he said.

We will try to build on our momentum in white-ball cricket, he added.

Pakistan have a chance to become the world’s top ODI team in the upcoming series against New Zealand.

If Pakistan shut out New Zealand 3-0 in the three-game series, they will move into first place in the standings with 114 points.

The Men in Green currently sit in fifth place with 107 ranking points. Meanwhile, New Zealand leads the standings with 116 ranking points.

If Pakistan win the ODIs against New Zealand, it will be their fourth straight series win.

In their previous three ODI series, Pakistan have beaten the Netherlands, West Indies and Australia.
