Bengaluru, Jan 9 (IANS): Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra has challenged JD(S) HD leader Kumaraswamy to prove the allegations made against him regarding the counting of wads of banknotes in his residence.
Citing a photograph of fugitive defendant Santro Ravi sitting in front of wads of banknotes, Kumaraswamy had accused the photo of being taken at Janendra’s residence.
The former chief minister further said that it was about the advance of the bribe money for the CPA post in the police department.
“Kumaraswamy’s allegations reflect his frustration. They are blatant lies. He was chief minister and made statements against me with complete irresponsibility,” Jnanendra said.
“He should prove the charges against me. I have ordered an investigation against Santro Ravi. I have also asked the police to investigate my role, if there is any. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had also ensured a fair investigation in the cases against Santro Ravi.
“I don’t know why he defames me and what he gets out of it. He knows how I work,” added the Minister of the Interior.
Speaking about his photos with Santro Ravi, the interior minister said that thousands of people take photos with him.
The ruling BJP government is accused of protecting Santro Ravi in a rape case.
The victim, his wife, a Dalit engineering graduate, had filed a rape complaint at Vijayanagara police station in Mysuru town.
She had claimed that before the wedding he raped her and after the wedding he constantly abused her and her family members.
The case had taken a political turn with Kumaraswamy alleging that Santro Ravi was supplying women to a hotel in Mumbai when the coalition government he led collapsed.
Karnataka lawmakers have been lodged in hotel in Mumbai after stepping down for their posts.
