Tiger Woods’ career had a remarkable rise after he started working with his caddy, Steve Williams. They were partners in 13 of his major wins.

Williams ubiquitously accompanied Woods, and one day it all came to an end. Woods was allegedly accused of cheating on his wife, Erin, and soon after fired Steve.

Although the real reason behind the act was kept under the radar, their relationship went through a sour phase.

Williams continued her successful career and began working with former world number one Adam Scott. However, his relationship with Tiger Woods suddenly changed for the worse, and the scariest part came after Scott won at Bridgestone while working with Steve Williams.

The caddy called it the most rewarding victory of his career, despite winning 13 major championships with Tiger Woods. The bitter taste of their broken extremities, hidden deep within their hearts, suddenly became the talk of the town.

Steve said:

“I’ve been a caddy for 33 years, and this is the best week of my life.”

Things got more toxic after a rumor circulated that Steve was upset because a black man fired him. He was called a racist by people, and the media claimed he was heard saying to the public:

“How dare that black man fire me?”

Woods spoke about the incident in one of his interviews in 2011 and said:

“Steve is definitely not a racist. There’s no doubt about it. It was a comment that definitely shouldn’t have been made and certainly one he wished he hadn’t made.”

Greg Norman also supported Steve Williams and said he was definitely not racist.

“I don’t know what’s in Williams’ heart” – Tiger Woods talks about his former caddy

Broken relationships always have a devastating effect on people’s hearts. Although they deny it, it still leaves indelible traces of toxicity.

However, Tiger Woods and Steve Williams were careful not to get involved in messy discussions and avoided them whenever possible. During his 2011 media interview, Woods opened up about his caddy, Steve Williams. Tiger said:

“I don’t know what’s in Williams’ heart, so I can’t speak to his general attitude towards people of color.”

It was a tough decision for Woods to fire Steve, and he acknowledged that fact in his interview ahead of the 2011 Australian Open. Woods said:

“For me personally, it was a difficult decision to go in a different direction in my professional life. But as far as personally concerned, I don’t know how it could have happened like that. But it happened, and here we are.”

The relationship between Steve Williams and Tiger Woods sadly ended and they both went on to pursue their careers. Woods’ cheating scandal impacted not only his life, but also the lives of those with whom he was associated.

Golf fans have accused Steve Williams of covering up Woods’ illegitimate romance, but he still sticks to his words of knowing nothing.
