Local Wisconsin newspaper accuses Libs of TikTok of canceling high school drag show

A local Wisconsin newspaper, The Capital Times, has highlighted the Libs of TikTok Twitter account as a factor behind the ‘hostile reception’ and eventual cancellation of a planned drag show event at Madison East. Highschool.

The school originally planned a “family” drag show for January 19 with the help of their organization Gender and Sexuality Alliance. On Monday afternoon, however, Madison Metropolitan School District spokesman Tim LeMonds reported that the event was canceled due to “safety concerns for the student body.”

Reporter Ruthie Hauge covered the schools’ response, but also documented Libs of TikToks’ coverage of the event from Thursday.

“On Thursday afternoon, Libs of TikTok, an account that has been suspended from Twitter multiple times for targeted harassment and other violations, sent out its own tweets about the event. The account focused much of its energy on the anti-LGBTQ messaging, often focused on schools and educators,” Hauge wrote.

She added, “Shortly after the Libs of TikTok tweets, the accounts began responding to unrelated tweets from the Madison Metropolitan School District and East High accounts, repeatedly directing the word groomers at both. “

Libs of TikTok originally shared the school newsletter advertising the event, which featured a statement of praise from the school principal.

“@MadisonEastHS principal invites students and their families to attend a family drag show at school. They say the show will celebrate and affirm LGBTQ+ students and staff and praises the work of the Gender and Sexuality Alliance Club” , said the tweeted account.

School Principal Mikki Smith’s comment read: “I am proud to recognize our organization GSA (Gender and Sexuality Alliance) for all the hard work they do to promote a supportive and inclusive environment. Our GSA has worked hard to plan Easts First Annual (Family) Drag Show to celebrate, affirm and support EHS students and staff in our LGBTQIA+ community as well as our wider school community.

Hauge wrote that LeMonds claimed that since the newsletter was shared on Twitter, the school had received a number of messages “which raised a number of security concerns for this student-led event” which led to its cancellation, although LeMonds suggested the event could be postponed to a later date.

CROCS CALLED UP TO SPONSOR DRAG SHOW WITH CHILDREN: IT’S NOT GOOD FOR CHILDREN

Hauge continued to push back against Libs of TikTok, pointing out that she and other conservatives have endangered drag events.

“In recent months, some curators, including the Libs of TikTok account, have targeted drag events. In some cases, the events highlighted by the account and others have required additional security to protect those involved from armed protesters. In other cases, events were canceled,” Hauge wrote.

Hauge cited Madison School Board Chairman Ali Muldrow who attacked critics for “using children” to “stir division.”

“I am outraged that politicians risk subjecting children to hatred and violence while desperately seeking attention, inciting fear and misunderstanding,” Muldrow told the Capital Times.

Over the past year, some mainstream media outlets have attacked the Twitter account for allegedly endangering locations by sharing publicly available information. In December, a guest on MSNBC’s “Deadline: White House” suggested the account was guilty of “stochastic terrorism” by causing “trans panic” by sharing information about drag events involving children.

Later Tuesday, TikTok’s Libs shared the news of the events being canceled.

“BREAKING: Wisconsin school is canceling the student drag show. As usual, they cite safety issues and of course cannot provide any evidence of these safety issues. The only safety issue is with the children who are exposed to inappropriate adult entertainment at school,” the account tweeted.

When contacted for a comment, TikTok’s Libs also added, “I will never stop calling out to those who seek to destroy the innocence of childhood.”
