He firmly denies any wrongdoing and is convinced that any investigation will exonerate him.

A source said: Paul had an issue to deal with off set after a claim he completely denies.

Of course, it is studied extensively.

It’s still early days for the movie and the shooting of the scenes hasn’t started yet, so it would be possible to rewrite and edit the script and script to account for his absence if it ever comes to that.

Anderson, 44, has been one of the biggest figures in the hugely successful franchise, appearing in every episode alongside co-star Cillian Murphy, 46, who plays his on-screen brother, Tommy.

And he was expected to play a major role in an upcoming film, planned by creator Steven Knight as the culmination of the saga.

But production sources suggest the latest developments have cast a cloud over the final cast.

Winner Stephen Graham, 49, appeared in the sixth and final series last year and is among those who would be on board for the film, alongside Cillian.

And show creator Knight also revealed he was hoping to sign Line of Duty star Vicky McClure, 39.

Describing the plot, he said: I know what’s going to happen in these stories and this is kind of an untold story that happened during World War II that Peakys is going to be involved in.

A production spokesperson declined to comment on Anderson’s involvement, but an insider added, “We wouldn’t discuss any individuals, but it’s too early at this point to say who will be in the film.”

The BBC series, which includes the catchphrase by order of The Peaky Blinders, ran for six seasons from September 2013.

It was based on a gang that operated in Birmingham in the late 19th century.

In the series, the infamous group, named after their practice of sewing razor blades into the peaks of their caps, is led by World War I veteran Tommy Shelby.
