Residents blame ‘pipeline leak’ as cracks appear on Aligarh homes

New Delhi: After Joshimath and Karnaprayag in Uttarakhand, some houses in Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh have developed cracks, causing fear among locals.

The ANI news agency quoted Aligarh Municipality’s additional commissioner, Rakesh Kumar Yadav, as saying an investigation would be carried out to determine why the cracks might have appeared.

The cracks appeared in houses in the Kanwariganj area of ​​Aligarh, where residents say a pipeline was laid by the government under the Smart City scheme, the Hindu reported.

No aid has yet been provided to residents following complaints. The cracks appeared three or four days ago, residents told ANI.

A week ago news of cracks in house walls, roads opening up and notification that the hill town of Joshimath in Uttarakhand was now a landslide affected area and a landslide had caused widespread panic and fear. No less than 678 buildings, including many residential ones, were damaged and the authorities evacuated more than 80 families. Locals blamed the hydel government’s electricity and road construction projects, which experts had long pointed out.
