The 57-year-old model took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a screenshot of a negative comment she received on one of her recent selfies, paired with a powerful caption responding to criticism from the Instagram user.

“I don’t know why women still think that continually taking their clothes off is a necessity to make a statement about aging or whatever,” the commenter began. “You don’t see men pulling their pants down to declare how ‘brave’ they are about growing old. Once again, a beautiful woman feels compelled to expose herself. When you’re a fashion model 5’10”, 120 lbs, it’s really not that revolutionary. [It] simply contributes to the objectification of women and presents a highly inaccessible reality for the vast majority of us.”

Porizkova responded by calling it “true” but “somewhat misdirected”.

“What’s true is that a bikini or nude photo of me gets a lot more traffic on social media than any other type of photo,” she wrote. “It’s also true that men don’t show up in their underwear to declare how brave they are to grow old.”

“Choosing to pose dressed or undressed, for a painting, a sculpture or a photo, is a celebration of the physical self,” she continued, adding that summarizing a woman’s identity to be a model “5′ 10″, 120 lbs” is “objectification” and “describing a woman as cattle”.

“It also shames her to use her body as she sees fit, it’s not a problem men have ever had,” Porizkova pointed out. “So while true, ultimately this comment becomes an example of the objectification he rails against.”

Porizkova’s fans rallied around her in the comments, praising her for hitting back at the critics.

“Free speech should never be a talking point,” one Instagram user commented, while another added, “Your answer is fire. Men don’t face the same discrimination as women. women as we age, let alone the objectification that every woman is uber aware as soon as we hit puberty.”

“Are the selfies a display of narcissism, a desire to be validated or to connect? I think they can be all of the above,” Porizkova wrote to her 971,000+ followers, adding that he it’s in our human nature to be drawn to faces out there. is “no need to feel bad” about taking and sharing selfies, “whatever your motivation.”
