Kensington Palace has been asked to respond to claims in Prince Harry’s memoir Spare that an unnamed staff member’s friend accepted cash payments for selling stories about him and his wife Meghan Markle. Quoting several paragraphs from the book, royal expert Peter Hunt tweeted: “An extraordinary allegation which has received no coverage. Has anyone asked Kensington Palace what action – if any – has been taken by Prince William?”
The passages in the book in question refer to a meeting between Harry and his brother to discuss alleged leaks.
Harry writes that he was “prepared for a conference” which “did not come”.
Instead, William seemed “moderate”, the duke claims.
He adds: “I told her about a former member of staff who was sabotaging Meg. Conspiring against her.
“I told him about a current member of staff, whose close friend was receiving payments for leaking private information about Meg and me to the press.”
Harry claims his sources were “flawless” and included “several journalists and lawyers”.
He also said he went to Scotland Yard, presumably to brief them on his claims.
Harry adds that Kate and William “had their suspicions”, with William pledging to “look into the matter”.
