A new report from CNN has detailed how then-Vice President Joe Bidens’ final days in office were such a “whirlwind” as his aides’ efforts to properly pack his office, including securing documents classified, were “confused and rushed”, leading to the classified documents. being lost.
CNN’s report attempted to shed light on how classified documents ended up in the offices of current President Bidens’ think tank in November, and more recently found at his Delaware residence, which are believed to have been stored next to his corvette in the garage.
The recent revelations have sparked a Justice Department investigation into Bidens’ mishandling of classified documents, with Attorney General Merrick Garland appointing special counsel to the case on Thursday.

According to CNN, the documents appeared to be out of place amid the chaos of the transition from the Obama to Trump presidencies. The report noted, “Partly to wrap up his political portfolios, partly to brag about his accomplishments and partly to occupy himself after the death of his son a year earlier, Biden threw himself into the job in a final sprint to mark what seemed then to be the end of a four-decade race at the highest levels of government.”
With Bidens’ office busy until the last minute, the article read, “Aides rushed to pack up his workspaces in the West Wing, Eisenhower’s Executive Office Building and his official residence, the naval observatory.”
CNN spoke to unnamed sources familiar with the past few days, one of whom admitted, “It was just a really, really weird time for everyone.”
The report further describes the transition as such: “Trump’s impending arrival in the White House has left many aides to Obama and Bidens wary of the future and eager to cement many of their accomplishments.” Sources said it was “a difficult time”.
He said: “These competing goals of using his office until the last minute, even if he was forced to close, resulted in a confusing and rushed process that left assistants packing boxes of documents and papers late into night, even as more and more material arrived.”

CNN admitted it was still an “open question” as to exactly how “a small batch of classified documents ended up in boxes of Bidens’ personal effects” and that Bidens’ attorneys “refused to say who, specifically, packed and moved the material.”
But he noted: “At a minimum, however, the placement of secret documents next to personal and political papers reveals a record-keeping process gone wrong.” Former aides and people familiar with the transition process insisted the transition team had made a “serious effort to follow the law made difficult by an unusually active home stretch”.
As aides rushed to pack and transfer everything, “Biden met in Kyiv with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and in Switzerland with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He spoke by phone with the Iraqi prime minister two days before leaving his duties. And earlier in the week he had calls with the president of Kosovo and the prime minister of Japan.”
Because of this case, “other classified documents continued to arrive” at Bidens’ office until the last minute.
Another source said: “Documents and briefings are still coming in and it hasn’t slowed down even when the boxes were packed.”

The report went on to mention how “hectic” the last days of Bidens’ VP tenure were. It mentioned that Biden received the Medal of Freedom from his boss, President Barack Obama, flying to New York for a live appearance on ABC’s “The View” the same day, then traveling to Kyiv, Ukraine, to deliver a speech at the World Economic Forum. in Davos and then back home for the inauguration of incoming President Donald Trump.
The report added, “Behind the scenes, a small contingent of Biden aides were unpacking boxes and setting up a new home on Chain Bridge Road in McLean, Va., just outside Washington.” The house “served as an office and a gathering point as longtime Bidens advisers helped him chart his new course” at the time.
