Residents of Redondo Beach were shocked to find racist flyers saying some cheaters weren’t welcome.

“It was a little heartbreaking because the content was very explicit,” said resident Peter K.

While out for a walk on Sunday, Peter found the racist flyer among the festive Halloween decorations in his neighborhood of Redondo Beach, at the corner of Grant Avenue and Rindge Lane. The document, which was posted on a telephone pole, reads “due to the large influx of black people to Redondo Beach, we are no longer handing out Halloween candy.”

“I think it’s just a bunch of people or maybe just one individual that’s not mentally well,” Peter said.

He took to social media to alert his neighbors to the racist flyer. Some of those who responded to his message shared their disgust.

The Redondo Beach Police Department said that flyer was also distributed in the city last year. Officers never tracked down the person who posted it. Police said those responsible for the flyer could be charged with a hate incident.

“They are also cowards because they give no information about who did this,” Peter said. “They just post it randomly.”

The flyer had disappeared on Monday afternoon. Peter added that the message does the feelings of the community.

“I don’t feel like it’s a community that upholds those values,” Peter said.

Peter said cheaters are welcome at Redondo Beach and won’t let the flyer ruin his Halloween.

“We have candy for everyone, of course,” he said.
