Washington [US]Jan. 15 (ANI): Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett has come to the defense of her film “Tar” after receiving vitriolic criticism from famed bandleader Marin Alsop. According to US entertainment outlet Deadline, Alsop said that the film was ‘anti-woman’ as he spoke to The Sunday Times earlier this week about ‘Tar’, a story about a world famous bandleader who faces sexual misconduct allegations involving female victims. as a woman, I was offended as a conductor, I was offended as a lesbian… To have the opportunity to represent a woman in this role and make her an aggressor – for me, it was heartbreaking,” Alsop said in the film.
Following up on this, Blanchett responded to Alsop as he spoke to BBC Radio 4 on Thursday about the film and said, “It’s a meditation on power, and power is genderless,” Deadline reported. The actor added that the “Tar” is designed to spark conversations, and that his character is “entirely fictional.” one man couldn’t have captured the nuance of the “corrupting nature” of power in the film. “I think power is a corrupting force, regardless of gender. I think it affects all of us,” Blanchett said, according to Deadline. Blanchett won a Golden Globe for her role in “Tar,” which is a strong Oscar contender. (ANI)
