A famous Austrian theater announced on Monday that it would cancel all shows featuring one of its actors after reports surfaced that he was accused of possessing tens of thousands of files containing child pornography.
On Friday, the Veinna Burgtheater fired Florian Teichtmeister, the actor who also plays Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph in the movie Corsage.”
The 43-year-old actor is due on trial on February 8 for child pornography after 58,000 media files containing alleged child pornography material were discovered in his possession, the Austrian Press Agency reported.
A criminal complaint against Teichtmeister was filed in mid-December but only made public last week.
Austria submitted Corsage as its entry in the Academy’s Best International Feature category and the film is on the shortlist from which five finalists are to be selected this month. The film will remain in the running for the Oscars despite the allegations against Teichtmeister, the Austrian press agency reported.
Corsage is a historical drama about Empress Elisabeth of Austria. François-Joseph was her husband.
