Mumbai: All allegations made by a 42-year-old woman in the Kurla gang rape case have been proven false, police say. The woman had alleged that three men assaulted her at knifepoint last month, while also burning her private parts with cigarette butts.

Police had arrested one of the three suspects, Bablu alias Mohammad Yakub Siddiqui, and he has been in jail for 40 days for a crime he did not commit.

The Free Press Journal previously reported on two medical reports of the victim from JJ and Bhabha hospitals, which clearly indicated that the rape allegation was false, while the injuries were self-inflicted.

The police had also sent the visual evidence collected at the alleged crime scene; the result fell at the beginning of last week. According to sources at Kurla Police Station, forensic reports could also not substantiate the allegations.

We are in the process of making a summary report, which will be submitted to the court. In this report, all examination and forensic reports will be attached, a police official said.

Police added that the other two suspects denied all the allegations and said all were made up by the victim in revenge. Police said the rivalry stemmed from a joint drug trade.
