‘Instagram makes people depressed’: Elon Musk doubles down on his criticism of social media platforms other than Twitter

[ad_1]

The owner of one of the biggest social media platforms in the world has shared his latest review of a rival platform. Could the comments drive people away from the rival platform or cause them to avoid all social media?

What happened: One of the biggest news stories of 2022 for the financial world was Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s $44 billion purchase of Twitter.

Musk had been a fan of Twitter for years, using the platform as his social media of choice to share his thoughts, memes as well as important updates and commentary from Tesla and SpaceX.

One platform Musk hasn’t been a fan of is Instagram, a photo and video-based social media platform owned by Meta Platforms META.

Instagram makes people depressed and Twitter makes them angry. What is better? Musk recently tweeted.

Musk’s comments drew huge reactions from his large follower base.

One user replied that LinkedIn makes people depressed, not Insta. Musk responded to the comment with a fire emoji.

Twitter user @WallStreetSilv replied that Twitter doesn’t make me angry. It makes me laugh all day.

Musk replied that Twitter made him laugh a lot.

Dogecoin DOGE/USD co-founder Billy Markus replied that Instagram is for narcissists, Reddit is for assimilating into the hive mind of idiots, Facebook is for old people, Twitter is for masochists crazy.

Why it matters: Musk’s Instagram comments weren’t his first take on the social media platform.

In 2018, Musk said Instagram could be a place where people seem to get a much better life tan than they really do while appearing on “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast.

Musk said people on Instagram might look prettier and happier than they actually are.

Musk expressed his distaste for Instagram and Facebook during an interview with the Tesla Silicon Valley Owners Club in 2022. Musk deleted the company’s pages for Tesla and SpaceX on Facebook.

It’s not a political statement and I didn’t do it because someone dared me to do it. Don’t like Facebook. Scares me. Sorry, Musk said previously.

Musk admitted during the interview that he has a secret Instagram account, also known as finsta.

Musk said he used to have a public Instagram account, but found himself taking a lot of selfies as a result.

Instagram, man, it’s a thirst trap, you know, Musk said.

Musk said he wondered why he was taking so many selfies and looking for likes on Instagram.

Instead, Musk prefers Twitter where he can get whatever message I’m trying to get across.

I only need one means of communication.

On Twitter, Musk also recently responded to a post showing a 2021 study that found people’s social circles have shrunk dramatically over the past 30 years, which could be due to the rise of social media.

Maybe we should spend less time on social media, Musk replied to the post. Musk’s comment elicited many responses, including those questioning the comments of Twitter’s new owner and CEO.

You just dropped $44 Billy on a social media company, maybe give him a few years before you take that position, user StockTalkWeekly replied.

The Last Word: Musk’s latest Instagram comments could drive distance across multiple social media platforms and also see Musk and Tesla fans spending less time on Instagram and more time on Twitter.
