Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Aitzaz Ahsan said on Wednesday that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif could not return to Pakistan due to the current political situation as well as the allegations that Nawaz was involved in the murder of a veteran journalist. Arshad Sharif and the alleged assassination attempt on former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Speaking to media staff outside the Lahore High Court (LHC), Aitzaz said London police would also no doubt investigate the allegations. He added that neither London nor the atmosphere in Pakistan was favorable to Nawaz.
Aitzaz argued that the PML-N seemed confused about decisions to counter the actions of Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaf (PTI). Citing the recent approval of 35 resignations of PTI deputies by the Speaker of the National Assembly, he said it appeared that the PML-N was worried, confused and frightened by Imran’s popularity.
The PPP leader further said that he did not see general elections in the center and the provinces at the same time.
He said Imran was left with only the option to hit the road once the resignations from the PTI were approved, as the party’s place in the National Assembly was limited.
Commenting on the local government elections in Karachi, he said the PPP was successful, while other political parties were in good standing.
He added that only the PML-N failed to win a significant victory in the Karachi election, suggesting that it was losing its vote bank with every passing day.
