A WOMAN has been fined for using racist language at a party.

Mark Hambling, prosecuting, said officers saw the 26-year-old on October 7 last year outside McDonald’s at The Cross.

Mr Hambling said Lloyd was drunk, in a distressed state and using profanity.

“It looked like she had been drinking heavily,” the prosecutor said.

“There were members of the public watching.

“She was handcuffed.”

The prosecutor said Lloyd exhibited obstructive behavior to officers before making a racist comment, all captured on police body footage.

Elaine Bell, chairwoman of the bench, asked if the racist comment was made to an officer, but Mr Hambling explained it was a member of the public a short distance away.

The prosecutor said it was a “short and quick comment”, adding that it was “no more than that”.

Sophie Lloyd was ‘ashamed’ to appear before Worcester Magistrates Court

Belinda Ariss, defending, said: “She doesn’t remember anything about the incident, she has no opportunity to fully accept the police evidence against her.”

Ms Ariss explained that her then-boyfriend had been arrested by police officers and that she had objected to this before committing the offences.

Ms Ariss said Lloyd, who had no previous convictions, was “extremely sorry and ashamed to be in court”.

Lloyd admitted to racially aggravated harassment/alarm/distress words, and to using threatening/abusive words/behaviour likely to cause harassment/alarm or distress.

The lawyer added that Lloyd is not currently working due to health issues, adding that she lives alone in rented accommodation.
