‘Won’t glorify Cong critics,’ Tejasvi Surya says of IndiGo’s emergency door opening case

Reacting to the plane’s emergency door opening incident for the first time, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP for South Bengaluru Tejasvi Surya said on Saturday that a clarification on the matter had already provided, and that it “shall not further glorify the criticism of Congress”.

While the airline – IndiGo, did not name the passenger, some passengers traveling on the same flight had claimed it was Tejasvi Surya. The BJP leader had, however, remained silent on the matter.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday after reporting Namo Charity Run in Bengaluru, Surya said the airlines and DGCA had given clarification regarding the incident.

“The Union Civil Aviation Minister explained that it was an accidental incident. K Annamalai, the BJP Chairman of Tamil Nadu who was traveling with me, also explained what happened exactly happened. Two other passengers also clarified the incident,” he said.

“I don’t want to react against the backdrop of criticism from the Congress party or someone asking for something, and glorify their critics,” MP Tejasvi Surya said.

A controversy had erupted recently after IndiGo Airlines released a statement that a passenger opened the emergency door of their Chennai-Tiruchirapalli flight on December 10, 2022, causing a two-hour delay in the flight’s departure.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia confirmed on Wednesday (January 18th) that the door had been opened last month “by mistake”, and the person who opened it apologized.

IndiGo reported on Tuesday that a passenger accidentally opened the emergency exit of a plane at Chennai airport on December 10. The passenger had apologized, the airlines said.

While the airline did not name the passenger, few opposition parties have reacted on the issue, saying the person responsible for the act is Tejasvi Surya.

Without naming Surya, the Civil Aviation Minister confirmed on Wednesday that the passenger who mistakenly opened the emergency exit, causing the flight to be delayed two hours, apologized for his action.

“I will not respond to what the opposition says. It is important to look at the facts. The door was opened by him by mistake while the flight was on the ground and after all checks the flight was cleared to take off “, says Scindia.
